Laura Knutelsky Ciccolella Announced She Is Running As An Independent For Fredon Township Committee
Fredon, N.J., June 4, 2022 - Laura Knutelsky Ciccolella announced today that she is running as an Independent in November’s general election for a seat on Fredon’s Township Committee.
Born and raised in Sussex County, Ciccolella is looking to improve morale in town through more civil dialogue among citizens of all viewpoints, more professional and regular communication from the Township on referendums and important announcements, and a stronger focus on encouraging people to live, work, and volunteer in Fredon.
“I see what I believe to be unprofessional and disrespectful interactions in the community online and off becoming a real roadblock in the town’s ability to gauge accurate public opinion or focus on local priorities,” said Ciccolella. “Citizens need and deserve support to find the correct places to find information and address their concerns. When we don’t proactively lead them to where they need to go or listen openly to their suggestions, it just builds up their frustration to the point of unnecessary revolts against the wrong institutions and people, including our schools and volunteers.”
“I don’t need to know who you voted for to know that helping you is the right thing to do as an elected official, and you don’t need to know my beliefs on current international relations to see how much I care about this small community and its people of all political opinions and backgrounds,” said Ciccolella. “I am running as an Independent to address these issues with a nonpartisan focus on serving our neighbors in this beautiful town of Fredon.”
Ciccolella spent 10 years working in public affairs and community relations throughout New Jersey before becoming certified to teach elementary school, as well as middle school science, social studies, and language arts.
“I had to leave a teaching job I loved a few years ago because the severe budget cuts in N.J. along with union tenure rules left me without a position,” she said. “I also taught at a charter school, so I truly understand so many sides in current debates in education, and can be a well-informed bridge for the town, school, and parents too.”
“From my time in corporate to my time in public education, I have experienced how asking questions and welcoming input are the first steps in any successful model that leads to solutions,” said Ciccolella. “I also believe in collaboration and civility when accomplishing goals and finding long-lasting results. I know these values still exist in Fredon and I am willing to step up and take the lead to bring them back in support of our taxpayers, school and municipal employees, and volunteers.”
Ciccolella graduated from Pope John XXIII Regional High School in 1998, earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and communications from The College of New Jersey in 2002, and her master’s degree in public relations from Syracuse University in 2003. Her husband, Donald Ciccolella, is a marketing and social media professional. They share three small children, a love of Lodestar Park and the outdoors, and fun-loving senses of humor.
